Siemens in Nigeria Offering Job Vacancies For Senior Electrical Engineers

For over 50 years, Siemens has been active in Nigeria, where it holds leading positions in its Industry, Energy and Healthcare Sectors, while Siemens IT Solutions and Services functions across all three Sectors. More than 100 high-voltage substations and a recently completed 414-MW gas turbine plant from Siemens are ensuring the reliability of the country's
power supply. In fiscal 2008 (October 1, 2007 - September 30, 2008), sales to customers in Nigeria amounted to EUR 82 million. New orders totaled almost EUR 24 million. Siemens currently has more than 100 employees in Nigeria.

In fiscal 2008, Siemens in Nigeria scored major successes in the following Sectors:
Industry Sector

In 2008, Siemens’ Industry Solutions Division completed phase 2 of the projects being implemented for the Nigerian Bottling Company PLC’s Abuja plant. Contracts for the supply of various low-voltage components for control and distribution systems, automation systems and drive technologies were received from customers such as Nigerian Breweries PLC, Obajana Cement PLC, ExxonMobil PLC, Unilever PLC and West African Portland Cement PLC (WAPCO), a subsidiary of Lafarge SA of France. The Division also received a contract from Frigoglass Industries PLC for the replacement of existing 11kV Long and Crawford switchgears with Siemens Ringmain Units. Kaduna State Ministry of Water Resources awarded Siemens a contract for the replacement of medium-voltage switchgears and 3.3kV motor starter switchgears.

Energy Sector

The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) awarded Siemens the contract for the construction of the Benin-Onitsha and Gombe-Yola 330/132kV substations. The substations, which are equipped with modern gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) technology, are part of a major Ministry of Energy initiative to improve the reliability of the power supply and enhance Nigeria’s distribution network. Siemens also received an order for the construction of a 132kV single circuit overhead transmission line for these substation projects. A number of maintenance and rehabilitation contracts were signed with PHCN such as a contract for the upgrading/replacement of 330kV and 132kV Siemens circuit breakers at various substations. Private companies such as Pivot Engineering Company Ltd., News Engineering Nigeria Ltd. and Valenz Holding Ltd. also placed various orders for the supply of high-voltage circuit breakers.

Healthcare Sector

Siemens supplied life support equipment, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, radiology, radiotherapy and lithotripsy systems and a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) to teaching hospitals across the country through the First Foundation Medical Centre.

of technical and professional experience. You will be reporting directly to the Technical Head Sales and be responsible for Transformer Service projects/ business and sales of Power Transformers.

SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strategic identification and realization of sales leads for Power Transformer business
  2. Manage and monitor the execution of Transformer Lifecycle Management (TLM) projects in line with budget and resources
  3. On-line activities such as testing, refurbishment, serving, installation and commissioning according to TLM standards and procedures
  4. Technical and Commercial Project Management in line with agreed budgets
  5. Management, supervision and training of support-personnel
  6. Presenting and selling TLM related solutions and services to customers
  7. Active participation in marketing events such as workshops, exhibitions, etc

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bsc degree accredited university in Electrical Engineering
  • Registration with NSE &/ or COREN a bonus
  • Project Management certification

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 5 years exhaustive transformer service experience (incl. assembly, installation and commissioning)
  • Minimum 3 years proven track record as Project Manager or Senior Commissioning Engineer (for and on behalf of reputable OEM or Utility Company)
  • Extensive knowledge of different transformer brands and their typical service needs in Nigeria
  • Good knowledge of Nigerian power sector, market participants and trends

SKILLS:
  1. Proficiency in MS Office desktop applications, AutoCAD and Electrical Design software
  2. Good communication and presentation skills – ability to convince customers and decision makers effectively to buy into Siemens transformers and TLM
  3. Good negotiation and problem solving skills
  4. Result and quality orientation
  5. Team player with customer service focus
  6. Flexibility / adaptability willing to travel at short notice
  7. Ability to oversee and train support personnel in an efficient manner
